Gallbladder Procedure

This procedure generally is done with a special surgical instrument that includes a video camera to guide the surgical team.
Before the surgeon removes the gallbladder and any gallstones, some patients may require a special X-ray procedure which shows the anatomy of the bile ducts.
Patients will receive general anesthesia for this surgery, lasting approximately 2 hours.
After the gallbladder has been removed, the body can no longer store bile between meals which usually has little to no effect on digestion.
