Either thyroidectomy surgeries, most are a minimally open surgery, are performed under anesthesia where a breathing tube will be placed in the trachea to assist breathing throughout the procedure.
The surgeon cuts a small incision in the center of the neck that can be placed in an area where the scar will not be seen after healing.
Some patients receiving a thyroidectomy as a result of thyroid cancer may also need to have their lymph nodes removed around the thyroid.
Patients may be sent home the same day while others remain in the hospital overnight and are sent home the next morning pending surgery specifics.

Many patients may be released the day of surgery however some patients are hospitalized for 1 – 2 days after surgery pending specific personal details.

A post surgical exam is required before patients leave Mérida.
Patients may return to complete normal activity within 6 – 8 weeks after the procedure.
